Her Royal Highness's Yearly Yuletide Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a blend of carols, music and readings from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

A Theme of Compassion and Love

The theme of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to public life subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Music and Opportunity

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to young musicians supported by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the former royal to increase availability of musical tuition.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the charity, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at the concert.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now a student at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.

A Family Affair

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Within the audience will be representatives of different generations.

That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for local food charities.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Taking to the stage will be recording artist Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the icing on the cake for us."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
